July 2005 – Press Release WILLIAM
GRANT & SONS COLLECTS BIGGEST GOLD MEDAL HAUL BY SCOTCH WHISKY
DISTILLER AT 2005 INTERNATIONAL WINE & SPIRIT COMPETITION
Independent
family owned distillers, William Grant & Sons, has scooped nine
gold medals, including seven ‘Best in Class’, at this year’s
International Wine & Spirit Competition, the industry’s leading
awards event. The gold
medal haul is the most by any Scotch whisky producer. Among
the winners is a vintage single malt selected by former excise men -
The Balvenie 1971 Vintage Cask. Three
former Customs and Excise Officers swapped their roles from whisky tax
collectors to whisky selectors to choose a cask of The Balvenie to be
bottled to create the 2005 vintage.
In
total William Grant & Sons scooped 25 medals – 9 Gold, 14 Silver
and 2 bronze – for its range of Scotch whiskies, including
Glenfiddich, the world’s favourite malt whisky, Grant’s, and Clan
MacGregor. The distiller
is also nominated for ‘Distiller of the Year’ to be announced at
on 1st November at a banquet in London. William
Grant & Sons’ Malt Master, David Stewart said: “We are
particularly pleased that this year we received gold medals for
Grant’s, Glenfiddich and The Balvenie - our three core whisky
brands. It really is a great result for our entire whisky portfolio.
Earlier this year we collected a record number of awards at the
International Spirits Challenge and now we have delivered another
exceptional result.” The
